Just in time for summer! You can get a head start on reading the Morning Calm Nominees -just go to the Morning Calm page on our website or click here.
I have already read 6!
Only 4 more to go and I will have read them all --both MS and HS. How many can you read?
Watership Down by Richard Adams
A classic tale of Hazel who leads a group of rabbits from their old warren to a new life in the down. In a journey fraught with peril and adventure the rabbits leave in search of a better life. Not only must they contend with predators and men but they must also battle other rabbits to survive. A dense read with lots of exposition and rabbit storytelling. MS/HS
An interview with the author Richard Adams in 2012 with the 40th anniversary American addition of the book with illustrations by Aldo Galli.
Also check out the Shmoop site which has many links regarding the book and movie.
The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West
Gia's boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot just before prom. Gia is desperate because her friends already don't believe that he is real. So when she sees a guy who has just dropped off a couple for the dance still hanging out she convinces him to go to prom with her as Bradley. The next few days Gia finds herself thinking not about Bradley but the fill-in guy. After some trouble tracking down the fill-in guy (his sister really doesn't like her) she starts to wish that Hayden (fill-in boyfriend's name) was her real boyfriend. But when Gia's lies and the real Bradley catch up with her Gia finds out who her real friends are and what she is made of. Funny, sweet romance for MS/HS.

The Cloak Society by Jeramey Kraatz
Soooo what do you do when you are the only son of super villains but you are starting to think that being a super villain isn't really for you? This is Alex's problem in a nut shell. He is under pressure to control his super powers and be a good (bad?) super villain but after he impulsively saves a super heroine in training during his first big battle he starts to have second thoughts about the whole being evil thing. Alex must discover just how bad are his parents and if he has the guts to go good. Similar to the comic book series The Runways --there is lots of action and some reflection on the nature of good and evil and doing the right thing even when it is against your family. MS
